May has been a stressful month – it started with my final year exam and ended up with my half-way assessment for my current placement. This is hopefully the last time I will be a student on placement so I am trying to spend as much time as possible learning from my educator and fellow students, whilst also trying to tick boxes in order to get the highest mark possible. Two weeks to go and counting! Here is what I have been loving this past month.
Strangers Again – Against The Current
Almost Forgot – Against The Current
Champagne – Lia Marie Johnson
Last Summer – Cimorelli
Sounds Good, Feels Good Mash-Up – Alycia Marie
Niki and Gabi are lifestyle and beauty YouTubers but they also have their own reality show on AwesomenessTV which follows them and their friends for a week at a time. This is the third season of the show and follows them to New York City – the City that never sleeps and therefore, neither does their drama. It is definitely a guilty pleasure of mine.
Life Makeover: Changing My Life/Girlboss – Nika Erculj
Nika has just gotten back from a trip to Malaysia and Sri Lanka which honestly looked incredible; I would recommend checking out her Instagram where she uploaded photographs from the trip. This video is her first video back following the trip and is all about how she is changing her life.
We’re Getting Married – Lucie Fink
Lucie is a video director at Refinery29, best known for her 5 Day Challenge or Lucie For Hire videos, but she also has a personal YouTube channel where she shares vlogs of her life. Her most recent one is of her engagement to her long-term boyfriend, Michael.
My First Time: Getting Birth Control – Monica Church
As Monica says herself in the video, talking about Birth Control is often something that is lacking in the media. In this video, Monica talks about her experience of getting and taking Birth Control and acts as the big sister we all needed when we were younger.
Trying Brittany Dawn’s Healthy Starbucks Drinks! – Michelle Reed
It is a well-known fact that Starbucks drinks are high in calories and are generally considered not healthy. However, Brittany Dawn, a fitness coach, has discovered ways in which Starbucks drinks can be made healthier. In this video, Michelle tests whether the drinks actually taste good.
On The Fence by Kasie West
For 16 year old Charlotte, being raised by a single dad and three older brothers has its perks. She can outrun, outscore and outwit every boy she knows, but when it comes to being a girl, Charlie doesn’t know the first thing about anything. So when she starts working at a boutique to pay off a speeding ticket, she finds herself in a strange new world of make-up, lacy skirts and BeDazzlers. To cope with the stress of faking her way through this new reality, Charlie seeks late-night refuge in her backyard, talking out her problems with Braden by the fence that separates them. But their Fence Chats cannot solve Charlie’s biggest problem: she’s falling for Braden.
I remember when I first read this book a few years ago and thinking it was one of the cutest, boy-next-door, love stories I had ever read. It is the teenage romance that every girl dreams of, falling in love with your best friend. Sure it is cheesy and predictable, but I honestly read it with a smile on my face the entire time.
Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver
For popular high school senior Samantha Kingston, February 12th – “Cupid Day” – should be one big party. And it is… until she dies in a terrible accident that night. However, she still wakes up the next morning. In fact, Sam lives the last day of her life seven times, until she realises that by making even the slightest changes, she may hold more power than she ever imagined.
I watched the movie before I ever read the book but if you know me; you know that I am very much a book over movie person. Books always have details that the movies fail to capture and you can normally live in the story for longer. It is such a powerful book – the idea that seemingly small actions can have a huge impact on your future. I would recommend reading the book or at least watching the movie, especially since it stars Zoey Deutch.
