June Favourites

June marked the end of my final placement and therefore the end of my time at University, provided I have passed the year. I was so excited to finally have some time-off after what has been a few very stressful months and I was excited to have time to explore as much of London as possible before I move out later this summer.

Films & TV

Set It Up

Two overworked and underpaid assistants come up with a plan to get their bosses off their backs by setting them up with each other.

The Kissing Booth

A high school student finds herself face-to-face with her long-term crush when she signs up to run a kissing booth at the spring carnival.

I absolutely loved both of the above movies. Sure they were incredibly cheesy and predictable but that was just part of the charm. It was quite unnerving seeing Joey King star in The Kissing Booth as I know her as a child actress from movies such as Ramona & Beezus and Crazy Stupid Love and the fact that she is now an adult makes me feel old!

Brain On Fire

Susannah Cahalan, an up-and-coming journalist at the New York Post becomes plagued by voices in her head and seizures. As weeks progress and Susannah quickly moves deeper into insanity, her behaviours shift from violence to catatonia. After a series of tantrums, misdiagnoses and a lengthy hospital stay, a doctor’s last-minute intervention enables him to give her a diagnosis and a chance to rebuild her life.

I cannot rave about this movie enough – it hooked me from the very first scene and kept me on tenterhooks the entire time. I even shed a small tear at the end as the movie really made me feel invested in Susannah and her recovery. I admire the real Susannah so much for sharing her story because I know that it has helped so many people, I know for sure that I had never heard of the auto-immune disease before watching this movie. I would highly recommend watching it and the fact that it stars Chloe Grace Moretz just makes the movie all that much better.

What have you been loving this month?

    1. It’s from Homeslice if they have them in the US – should be featured in an upcoming post about food places to eat in London but thought I would sneak it in here too.
