A Love Letter To Myself

Inspired by the new Netflix Movie, To All The Boys I Have Ever Loved, Clover challenged their readers to write a love letter addressed to themselves. You can check out the love letter they published here.

Dear Me,

We have not always had the easiest relationship. There have been time that I have been so critical of you – pinching at the fat on your stomach, hating your eyes for the way they crease when you smile, straightening your hair everyday in an attempt to tame the frizziness. But there have also been times that I have fallen in love with you.

I have fallen in love with the way you wear your heart on your sleeve and your emotions on your face. You have never been good at hiding your feelings from others and I used to think that this was a bad thing as it made you an open book, but what is so bad about that?! The people around you know that they are loved and appreciated by you because you tell them through your thoughts and actions. In a world that is so populated with mental health disorders, is it really a bad thing to show you care?!

I have fallen in love with your loyalty. The way that you will put others’ needs above your own needs, often dropping everything to run to a friends’ side. The way that you do not need to talk to someone every day or even every week to still hold them dear in your heart. The way you will fight more on a friend’s behalf than on your own. The way you will do whatever you can do to make them happy.

I have fallen in love with your humour. You used to feel so self-conscious about your sense of humour, knowing that you always took after my Dad’s dark sense of humour that was not always appropriate in certain situations, but now I embrace it. Your sense of humour and subtle sarcasm is part of what makes you you and whilst you might have to explain yourself every-so-often, you know that your close friends and family know about and understand your sense of humour and appreciate your need to lighten the mood at times.

I have fallen in love with the colour of your eyes and the way your hair falls in front of your face when you laugh. The fact that you are always sleepy despite many cups of coffee. The way anyone can tell what you have been eating that day depending on the colour of the corner of your lips.

The truth is, you are the only person that is going to be there for me forever. Whenever I fall down, you are always going to be the first person picking me back up and kissing my grazed knees. Whilst friends may come and go and family arguments may occur, you are always going to stick by my side, my greatest supporter. So it is time I started appreciating you like the lover you are.

Love,

Me

    • I recently watched the movie too and it is so cute, although definitely predictable. I remember reading the book as a teenager and it has made me want to re-read it again. Of course not, although I would recommend linking Clover too since it was their idea. x

  1. Oh woaw! Beautiful feels like a word with not enough power to express how gorgeous this was. First of all I really admire you for actually writing a letter like this. In a way it doesn’t really get more personal than this. However, the fact that you’ve decided to share it with a group of people online, that my friend, that’s beyond cool. I truly hope that you give yourself that credit ❤ I kind of am considering to do a post like this myself… so thank you very much for inspiring me – I'll be sure to link to this post and you, if I end up doing it xxx I hope you'll have a wonderful week

    • Thank you! I actually found it easier to write this post and publish it online where ‘anonymous’ strangers can read and comment on it than to read it to my own family and friends. I am proud of this post though – I think it is my new favourite post. Please do link me if you do end up reading the post – just so I can check it out myself too! x
